Who we are, why we started, and what we do.
OUR WHY.
Hi! My name is Nevi. I grew up camping, hiking, and backpacking with my family, creating a passion for nature at a young age. The experience of peace and wonder when you are immersed in the outdoors is truly unparalleled and I want others to be able to experience the same thing as it truly changes your life.
However, upon becoming a teenager I started to notice that there were less opportunities for me to be involved in nature. Elementary school children are targeted with environmental education programs and adults can work with several of the conservation organizations already present in Nevada, but there are virtually no opportunities for teenage youth to experience the outdoors and work to protect it. These teens are stuck in the limbo of not being young enough for involvement and not being old enough to have a "real impact".
I saw this discrepancy and resolved on making Nevada Youth for Nature to fill that gap so that other teens across Nevada who find themselves in the same dilemma can experience the power of nature, get inspired to help protect it, and have the opportunities to make a difference. After all, we are the ones who will have to deal with the consequences if change is not enacted today.
PURPOSE & PRACTICE.
Nevada Youth for Nature is an organization focused on connecting Nevada teenaged residents to our beautiful natural landscapes and empowering them to be involved in conservation and advocacy work.
We do this through providing outings to actually explore the outdoors, volunteer opportunities where we help conserve our public lands, and education and advocacy to make an impact at the root level all while creating a community of like minded people for the teens of Nevada.
